Promising four days of fantastic music entertainment, Cheltenham College will host the inaugural Choral Festival in its stunning chapel from Wednesday 21 to Saturday 24 February 2018.

Set to delight audiences, the festival will feature some of Europe’s best choirs and an enchanting variety of choral music, with audiences able to see The Queen’s Six, Merton College Choir, ORA Singers, and Cheltenham’s own college choirs.

The Queen’s Six

Wednesday 21 February at 7.30pm

Established in 2008 and based at Windsor Castle, The Queen’s Six consists of six excellent singers who have come together to showcase their unique style of entertainment to a wider audience.

With an impressive repertoire that encompasses everything from austere early chant, florid Renaissance polyphony, lewd madrigals and haunting folk songs, to upbeat jazz and pop arrangements, Cheltenham audiences are in for a treat.

Cheltenham College Choirs

Thursday 22 February at 6pm

See the Cheltenham College Choirs during what’s sure to be a brilliant performance, with the repertoire to be recorded and sold during the choir’s upcoming tour in Belgium and France.

Music lovers can look forward to hearing Fauré’s ‘Requiem’, Bairstow’s ‘Blessed City’ and Kendall’s ‘Their Kingdom, the air’ from the Combined Schola Cantorum; Lewis’ ‘The Souls of the Righteous’ from the Chapel Choir; and Pärt’s ‘Magnificat’ from the Chamber Choir.

ORA Singers

Friday 23 February at 7.30pm

A critically-acclaimed a cappella vocal group, the ORA Singers is renowned for its musical excellence and fresh, engaging approach to music and performance, with its Cheltenham repertoire including Allegri’s ‘Miserere mei’; Tallis’ ‘Miserere Nostri’; and Plainchant’s ‘Maria Virgo’.

What’s more, the choir adopts an innovative approach by producing full productions with help from professional directors and designers – ensuring that its shows are unique and utterly spellbinding.

Merton College Choir

Saturday 24 February at 7.30pm

A concert of English Choral Masterpieces in aid of the Holst Birthplace Museum, the excellent Merton College Chapel Choir will finish the Choral Festival on a high.

The anticipated concert will feature renditions of Walton’s ‘Coronation Te Deum’; Vaughan Williams’ ‘Thou Hast Been Our Refuge’ and ‘O Taste and See’, as well as music by Byrd, and pieces commissioned by the choir.
