A pair of beavers made a splash at the official opening of Slimbridge Wetland Centre’s Back from the Brink exhibit in Gloucestershire, where otters and cranes had already settled in nicely.

The weather might have been perfect for ducks, but the official opening of Slimbridge Wetland Centre’s Back from the Brink exhibit saw its newest residents – a pair of male Eurasian beavers – make themselves at home too on Tuesday 28 July 2009.

Whispering onlookers watched as Slimbridge Wetland Centre’s wardens released the father and son beavers into their new home at the Back from the Brink exhibit, where the crowd-pleasing duo swam a circuit of their new lake before shyly retiring to their new lodge.

On SoGlos.com’s visit, Back from the Brink’s other residents – long-legged cranes, otters, and shy mammals including water shrews, harvest mice and water voles – had already settled into their new homes too, ready for the first appearances to members of the public on Wednesday 29 July 2009.
