Allium makes the Local Heroes Finals

All eyes are on Allium, and its spectacular cuisine, as the Fairford restaurant flies the Gloucestershire flag in the UKTV South West Local Food Heroes Awards 2007.

Fine dining restaurant Allium is the only Gloucestershire business to have made it through to the South West finals of the UKTV Local Food Heroes Awards – beating competition from the rest of Gloucestershire and the whole South West to make it as one of five regional finalists.

Allium is an already acclaimed restaurant which specialises in the use of locally sourced ingredients, and chef James Graham is directly involved with the rearing, slaughtering and butchering of all of the meat used in the restaurant.

The finalists were chosen after thousands of members of the public voted on the UKTV Food website, with Gary Rhodes and an expert judging panel then assessing the top 20 outlets in each region to determine the first five businesses to go through.

A sixth ‘wild card’ outlet is still to be decided, with voting open to members of the public until 20 August – so there’s still chance to get another Gloucestershire business into the running.

In the meantime two-star Michelin chef Michael Caines, the South West regional scout for the awards, will be descending on Allium with a television crew to begin filming for a series which will be aired from 5 to 20 November.
