Christmas at The Wharf House in Gloucester
Until 23 December - Turkey will be banned for a second year running at The Wharf House restaurant in Gloucester this Christmas, with three festive menus offering diners something altogether more spectacular.
While Christmas brings to mind images of sprucing the tree with sparkling tinsel, delicately wrapping pressies with red ribbon and sitting around log fires sipping mulled wine – memories of the obligatory dry turkey are sadly never far away. So you’ll be pleased to hear that this Christmas, for the second year running, The Wharf House restaurant in Gloucester will be banning the seasonal bird.
Instead diners can expect to find a more innovative festive treat – with highlights including roasted quail, crisp julienne vegetables and a sweet Madeira sauce to start, and for main course the succulent loin of venison rolled in walnut with redcurrant and chocolate sauce, or filo parcel of spinach, mushroom and chestnut with a spicy tomato and ginger sauce.
Our favourite is the mouth-watering rocket and raspberry jelly with cracked pepper ice-cream desert, while orange and brandy fool with chocolate and praline are also expected to be snapped-up by Gloucestershire’s gastronomes.
The Wharf House boasts a decent stock of wines too – including local tipples and an international collection of champagnes – and catering for groups of all sizes, the waterside restaurant is set to be the dining destination of choice in Gloucester this Christmas.
The Wharf House is open for Christmas lunch and dinner, festive menus range in price from £18.95 to £38.95 per person and a £10 deposit per person is required. Call (01452) 332900 or visit thewharfhouse.co.uk for more information.
