Until 24 December – Cheltenham’s revamped, modern Mediterranean restaurant Merlot Brasserie will be gaining more seals of approval this Christmas.

This Christmas will be the perfect time to check out Merlot Brasserie if you're not already a regular.
This Christmas will be the perfect time to check out Merlot Brasserie if you're not already a regular.

Since being taken over by new management a few months ago, the SoGlos.com team have heard nothing but good things about Merlot Brasserie on Cheltenham’s Ormond Terrace – with none other than Sir Ranulph Fiennes having given the revamped restaurant his seal of approval, whilst in town for this year’s Cheltenham Literature Festival.

So it will come as no surprise to readers that Merlot Brasserie has made SoGlos.com’s hit list of county restaurants to dine at this Christmas, with a tempting modern Mediterranean menu that’s sure to pull in the crowds.

For starters there’s coarse chicken liver and bacon pate; twice-baked blue cheese and walnut soufflé; and tian of crab, home-cured salmon and avocado on offer throughout the festive season. While highlights from the main menu include roast saddle of lamb with rosemary and redcurrant stuffing and pork jus; pan-fried fillet of salmon with fresh mango, lime and coriander salsa; and fine, traditional roast Cotswold turkey complete with all the trimmings.

For diners who still have room for dessert, the double chocolate and almond brownie; zesty lemon and honey syllabub; and steamed Christmas pud are all sure to hit the spot. And, with menu prices which won’t break the bank, you’ll have plenty left over for a special bottle of wine to celebrate in true style.

Merlot Brasserie is open for Christmas lunch and dinner, with the lunch menu priced at £19 for two courses or £24 for three courses, and the dinner menu priced at £24 for two courses or £29 for three courses. Diners must pre-order the Christmas menu. See Merlot Brasserie or call (01242) 574008 for more information.
