The Wharf House goes solar
News – See Gloucestershire’s largest array of solar panels, now installed in pride of place at The Wharf House in Over.
Part of the Herefordshire and Gloucestershire Canal Trust, The Wharf House in Gloucester has taken one step closer to its goal of being self-sustainable – thanks to an installation of 94 photovoltaic panels at the restaurant and accommodation venue this month.
Described as the largest array of solar power panels in Gloucestershire by the venue, the system captures the sun’s energy using PV cells and then converts it into electricity – used to run The Wharf House’s appliances and lighting.
Just over half of the venue’s PV cells are facing east, with the remaining installed on the west-facing roof. This means there are two periods in the day when electricity is being generated.
The new solar installation is expected to be a particular talking point for visitors to the Beer, Cider and Perry Festival, as well as the Canal Triple Open Day, this coming weekend – when there will be plenty of reason to keep fingers crossed for sunny skies!
