Royal International Air Tattoo 2009

18 to 19 July – RAF Fairford’s Royal International Air Tattoo 2009 promises to be one of the world’s biggest and best air shows this summer, with hundreds of aircrafts offering hours of death-defying displays to crowds from across Gloucestershire and beyond.

The Royal International Air Tattoo 2009 is set to be one of the biggest air shows in the global calendar of aviation events, with almost 200,000 flying fans from across Gloucestershire and beyond due to converge at RAF Fairford for the two-day spectacular on Saturday 18 to Sunday 19 July 2009.

While last year’s Air Tattoo was cancelled due to poor weather, organisers have promised the 2009 event will be going ahead come rain or shine – with hopefully two year’s worth of sunshine to make up for last year’s washout which led to the cancellation for the first time in the event’s 38-year history.

While exact details of the Royal International Air Tattoo 2009 are yet to be announced, the event will mark the 60th Anniversary of the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO), showcasing aircraft that represent the wide variety of tasks performed by the Alliance, including B-52 and B-1 bombers from the US Air Force, fast jet displays from the RAF’s Typhoon, the Swedish Air Force’s JAS-C39 Gripen and the Spanish Air Force’s F-18 Hornet.

Maritime patrol and surveillance aircraft from around the world are also being invited to take part in Sea Search 09, the Air Tattoo’s operational theme. And, a major coup for organisers will be the arrival of The Algerian Air Force’s C-130 Hercules, bringing the number of countries that have displayed at the Air Tattoo to a grand total of 51.

Plus, some of the world’s most exciting aerobatic display teams will be flying for the two days, including the legendary Red Arrows, the Italian Frecce Tricolori and Portugal’s aerobatic display team Asas de Portugal, will be wowing the crowds.

No tickets will be on sale at the gate this year, and so must be purchased in advance. Tickets for the summer’s Royal International Air Tattoo are on sale at ticketmaster.co.uk and cost £34.95 for adults. Once again the under 16s will be admitted to the Air Tattoo free of charge.
