Tetbury tough guys and girls assemble! The annual Tetbury Woolsack Races are back to test strength and stamina on Bank Holiday Monday 27 May 2024.
The traditional event sees up to 5,000 spectators gather each year to witness competitors hoist heavy sacks weighing up to 60lb over their shoulders and trudge up and down the steep one in four gradient of Gumstool Hill, along a challenging 240-yard course — all while raising money for local charities.
Whilst offering their encouragement from the side-lines, visitors can also enjoy a lively array of entertainment, including live music, local stalls and vintage amusement rides.
The theme of this year is Celebrating the Cotswolds and aims to highlight the rich heritage of the event, which is believed to have originated in the 17th century — with a focus on local food, drink, crafts and gifts.
As always, the family-friendly day out is free to attend and all for a good cause.
