Kemble Air Day 2008, being held on Sunday 15 June – or Father’s Day, in case it has slipped your mind – will pay tribute to the RAF’s 90th Anniversary with a unique gathering of British vintage jets this year, in an event set to impress aviation fans from far and wide.

Organisers promise that the Cotswold airfield will play host to a multitude of aircraft: from the dawn of the jet age visitors will be able to see at least one Gloster Meteor – Britain’s first, Gloucestershire-built, jet fighter – alongside a De Havilland Vampire. Joining them in the flying display will be Hawker Hunters, Jet Provosts and a Folland Gnat – the type used by the Red Arrows.

There is also set to be several unique flypasts from an array of aircraft, all devised to capture the heritage of the Royal Air Force. The RAF’s Battle of Britain Memorial Flight will commemorate the World War II period with a display by a Spitfire, Hurricane and Dakota. Another Spitfire from Rolls Royce will display, as will an American P51 Mustang.

The Royal Navy Historic Flight will also be in attendance to display their recently restored Fairey Swordfish. Known affectionately as the Stringbag, during World War II it was this biplane aircraft that helped sink the German battleship Bismarck with its single torpedo. From a later era the Royal Navy Historic Flight will also send its Hawker Sea Hawk, one of the first jets to operate from aircraft carriers.

Kemble Air Day 2008 also marks the first year the event has adopted a charity – which has been fittingly chosen to be the Royal Air Force Benevolent Fund. Tickets are on sale now and cost £25 for adults on the day and £5 for children aged 6 to 16, with the under 5s admitted free of charge.

Kemble Air Day has become an annual highlight for aviation fans of all ages – celebrating both classic and modern aircraft that will prove a great day out for all the family. So crane your necks, take a picnic and hope for sunny skies on Sunday June 15 2008, as one of the top aviation shows in the country soars into Gloucestershire for the 12th year in a row.
