Take the plunge at one of five swimming pools in Gloucestershire and be part of Swimathon 2012, the world’s biggest swim to raise money for Marie Curie Cancer Care.

Swimathon is set to make a huge splash once again in 2012, as thousands take to more than 650 pools across the country to swim to raise money for Marie Curie Cancer Care during the world’s biggest swim.

Open to all, Swimathon encourages people to set their own personal challenge by accomplishing a distance of their choice – including choosing from the individual 1.5k, the individual 2.5k or the individual 5k distance, while teams of two to five can also choose the 5k distance.

Over the past few years, more than 500,000 swimmers have taken part in Swimathons nationwide and have raised millions of pounds for Marie Curie Cancer Care and The Swimathon Foundation.

Swimathon President Duncan Goodhew said: ‘We all know that 2012 will be a very special year for sport in Britain. In our 25th Anniversary year, we’d love to add to the 500,000 people who have used the event down the years to dive into pools up and down the country.’

In Gloucestershire, county swimmers can head to five pools between Friday 27 and Sunday 29 April 2012, including:

Cotswold Leisure Cirencester in Cirencester

GL1 Leisure Centre in Gloucester in Gloucester

Leisure@Cheltenham in Cheltenham

Stratford Park Leisure Centre in Stroud

Tewkesbury School Sports Centre in Tewkesbury

Swimmers can sign-up for a Swimathon session at any of the participating swimming pools, and can also register by calling Marie Curie Cancer Care on 0845 3670036. This year’s deadline for entries is Thursday 26 April 2012.
