Star-studded start to the international season at Beaufort Polo Club
News – A star turnout and victory for England ensured the start to the international polo season was a success at Beaufort Polo Club’s seventh annual Country Fair.
While the rain clouds hovered over Gloucestershire, keen polo fans and first-timers alike made their way to Beaufort Polo Club, near Tetbury, to witness the first international test match of the season on Saturday 18 June 2011.
And despite the damp weather, the crowds of umbrella-clutching spectators were not let down by the spectacular action on the polo field when the England Team beat New Zealand with a score of 10 to 6.5.
England Team captain, Luke Tomlinson, said: ‘Winning at Beaufort gives us a real boost going into the Cartier International later in the year. It was a new formation and despite a heavy and slow ground due to the weather it worked well.’
The match was held as part of the seventh annual Beaufort Country Fair on Saturday, and while the international polo match may have been the biggest attraction, visitors were also treated to a bit of celebrity spotting.
Keen polo player Prince Harry and his cousin Zara Phillips represented the royal family at the prestigious event, with Girls Aloud’s Sarah Harding, designer Henry Holland and singer Diane Vickers just a few other names on the guest list.
