Locals looking for a bit of fresh air and a new way to tone up are in luck, as Way2Go Adventures will be offering visitors to Beechenhurst Lodge a taste of Nordic walking in two one-off sessions, taking place on Saturdays 19 May and 14 July 2012.
Nordic walking was originally a way for elite cross country skiers to stay in top shape throughout the summer, but has since become a bit of a health craze, with people taking part to improve their health and fitness, tone up and lose weight.
Similar to trekking or rambling, the difference with Nordic walking is that the poles are planted behind you in order to propel you along – engaging the upper body and making you feel lighter on your feet, according to organisers.
Way2Go Adventures said that the main benefits of Nordic walking are that it burns at least 20 per cent more calories than normal walking, uses 90 per cent of the major muscle groups, reduces the pressure on knees and hips, and can be done anywhere.
They hope to see people of all ages attend the walking sessions, promising a fun, sociable and energetic day out – with walking poles provided.
