Five Valleys Walk in Stroud

Event ended

Join the Meningitis Trust for a stunning 21-mile walk through Stroud’s famous Five Valleys and raise funds for the Gloucestershire-based charity.

The Five Valleys Walk, one of the largest walking events in Gloucestershire, will be celebrating its 25th anniversary this year; setting off to once again raise funds for the local-based charity Meningitis Trust on Sunday 30 September 2012.

The event takes in each of Stroud’s five valleys, passing through the beautiful countryside of Nailsworth, Minchinhampton, Brimscombe, Eastcombe, Slad, Pitchcombe and more along the way, promising a perfect day out for the whole family – with the walk said to be suitable for adults, children and even dogs. Some parts are also said to be pushchair and wheelchair friendly.

Having attracted thousands of participants from across Gloucestershire and beyond since its inception 25 years ago, the Meningitis Trust along has raised an incredible £950,000 to date through the annual walk. This year, organisers are keen to take the total to a cool one million, and are hoping for the biggest turn-out yet.

For those new to the annual event, the circular route is 21-miles long with nine checkpoints dividing it into shorter sections. Participants can choose to challenge themselves to walk the whole route, or pick a distance to suit them and use the free Stagecoach bus service to travel back to their starting point.

And to keep walkers going right through to the end, Angel Springs will be providing free drinking water at each checkpoint, while culinary delights and refreshments including Winstone’s and Lovington’s ice-cream, beer and picnic goodies will also be on sale at some checkpoints.

With the chance to explore Gloucestershire’s magnificent countryside and raise funds for an established local charity, lace up those walking boots and make a difference with every mile.
