Gloucester's Jamie McDonald reveals next epic charity challenge

Three years after his mammoth 5,000-mile solo run across Canada, Gloucester sporting hero and Pride of Britain winner, Jamie McDonald, reveals that his next epic charity challenge will see him run across the United States.

Having already raised a whopping £250,000 for charity, Gloucester’s Jamie McDonald unveiled his next venture at Cheltenham Literature Festival after an inspiring talk about his new book.

Born with a rare spinal injury and suffering from very poor health, 31-year-old Jamie McDonald has since gone on to raise an enormous amount for charity by completing a staggering 5,000-mile run dressed as a superhero, across Canada back in 2014.

Working tirelessly to give back for the treatment he received as a child, Jamie founded the Gloucestershire-based Superhero Foundation which grants money to families to pay for treatment that is unavailable on the NHS.

Discussing his highly-acclaimed book, Anyone Can Be A Superhero at Cheltenham Literature Festival, Jamie revealed that next March will see the start of his second challenge; taking on a 6,000 mile run across more than 15 states in America.

Running solo without a support team, Jamie will face desolate deserts, freezing temperatures and the threat of wild animals in a stoic attempt to raise a further £250,000 for the Superhero Foundation.

Speaking about the challenge, Jamie said: ‘I’m absolutely terrified, but also hugely excited at the same time to get back out and do what I love most all over again, challenging myself and meeting amazing people along the way.’
