Dad’s Army Marches On in Cheltenham
The Everyman Theatre’s stage will be barricaded by a cast of unlikely Home Guard veterans once again, when Dad’s Army Marches On arrives in Cheltenham.
One of the most popular British comedies of all time, Dad’s Army has been transported to the stage for a national tour this spring, to celebrate 70 years of the Home Guard.
Don’t panic, Gloucestershire audiences can get their slice of the action, when the production calls at Cheltenham’s Everyman Theatre on Monday 12 April 2010.
Promising a fun-filled treat for the whole family, the play-version of the popular BBC TV series, which ran for 10 years after being first screened in 1968, promises the same brand of comedy that captured the hearts of millions of viewers with its gentle, timeless humour and bulldog spirit.
Lovingly recreated for the stage, this new production features a star-studded cast including Leslie Grantham as Private Walker and Timothy Kightley as Captain Mainwaring, breathing new life into the misadventures in the fictional South Coast town of Walmington-on-Sea.
Featuring classic episodes hand-picked by writers Jimmy Perry and David Croft, Everyman audiences can expect to see adaptations of ‘Branded’ and ‘Mum’s Army,’ in the nostalgic production.
