Chess The Musical tours Gloucestershire

Event ended

22 March – Chess The Musical will be making a strategic move across Gloucestershire in 2008, as the much-loved show takes a tour of the county’s stages.

Cheltenham-based Rolling Stock Theatre Company will be taking Chess The Musical to an array of stages across Gloucestershire from January 2008, treating audiences in Gloucester, Cheltenham, Stroud and the Cotswolds to the show which has wowed the West End.

With lyrics by Tim Rice and a score by Abba’s Benny Andersson and Bjorn Ulvaeus, including hits ‘One Night in Bangkok’ and ‘I Know Him So Well’, Chess The Musical sees players, politicians and spies compete for their heart’s desire against a cold-war backdrop.

Pitching romantic and political rivalries against the game of chess, audiences can expect to see an arrogant American Champion, a Hungarian love interest, and a Russian opponent compete on and off the chess board.

Directed by Ann Wessen, the Rolling Stock Theatre Company production of Chess The Musical will be performed at the following venues:

Thursday 20 to Saturday 22 March 2008 at The Playhouse Theatre in Cheltenham. Tickets cost £10 or £8 for concessions from The Playhouse box office on (01242) 522852.

‘Chess is one of my favourite shows and rather than performing a full scale theatrical production we’ve gone back to the original concept album, giving what I would call a more intimate production,’ David Singer, who plays The Russian, said.

‘Taking the show on tour is a big commitment for everyone involved, but despite the hard work and rehearsals it has been a lot of fun and we are all looking forward to bringing it to venues around the county,’ he continued.
