English Touring Opera in Cheltenham
A trio of spellbinding productions from English Touring Opera will take to the Everyman’s stage in Cheltenham this spring, including the special family-friendly Fantastic Mr Fox.
Cheltenham will be the setting for a feast for opera lovers this spring, when dazzling new productions of Puccini’s Il Tabarro and Gianni Schicchi; La Clemenza di Tito by Mozart; and the family opera Fantastic Mr Fox all arrive in town.
Performed by the critically-acclaimed English Touring Opera at The Everyman Theatre, from Tuesday 5 to Saturday 9 April 2011, fans of the company’s previous operas will no doubt be flocking to see this latest trio of diverse titles.
Fantastic Mr Fox at The Everyman Theatre
Based on the classic children’s story by Roald Dahl, the ETO’s brand new production is said to brilliantly bring to life the story of the sinister farmers battling with a family of foxes.
‘Written for adults and fox cubs alike and suitable for ages 7 and upwards, it is funny, virtuosic, accessible and engaging.’
Fantastic Mr Fox will be performed at The Everyman Theatre on Tuesday 5 April 2011, at 7pm.
La Clemenza di Tito at The Everyman Theatre
One of Mozart’s final works and arguably his most magnificent, organisers describe the epic story as one of terrorism, betrayal and forgiveness set in blazing colours, sung in English.
‘Written for the Emperor’s coronation in Prague, Mozart regarded it as a true opera – beautiful and moving – and wrote it for the finest singers of his day.’
La Clemenza di Tito will be performed at The Everyman Theatre on Wednesday 6 and Saturday 9 April 2011, at 7.30pm.
Il Tabarro and Gianni Schicchi at The Everyman Theatre
Organisers promise that these two short operas by Puccini couldn’t be more different: ‘one is a moody romance ending in a grotesque murder on a barge in Paris and the other is a sparkling comedy about a family inheritance in Florence.’
Composed by a mature master of drama and character, these two operas will give Cheltenham opera fans a chance to hear Puccini performed at his best, sung in Italian with English surtitles.
Il Tabarro and Gianni Schicchi will be performed at The Everyman Theatre on Thursday 7 and Friday 8 April 2011, at 7.30pm.
