Jack The Ripper might not be the usual sort of character you’d find a musical dedicated to, but that’s not stopping The Playhouse Company, an amateur band of actors from Cheltenham, from putting on what they promise will be a warm, funny and exuberant play at The Playhouse Theatre.

Written by Ron Pember and Denis de Marne, Jack The Ripper is a musical reconstruction of the grisly murders of 1888, which have since gone on to become criminal legend.

Set in Whitechapel, partly in a Music Hall and partly in the surrounding East End streets, the play shifts between grim reality on the streets and the fanciful world of the Music Hall.

While most of the characters are rough and tough East Enders, complete with cracking costumes, expect to see their fierce loyalty to one other and to their patch shine through – resulting in a light-hearted performance despite the macabre theme of the musical.
