Gloucester Guildhall’s monthly comedy club will be holding a huge New Year’s Eve celebration once again on Friday 31 December 2010, for comedy fans to see in 2011 in salacious, and salubrious, style.

Entertaining Guildhall goers will be Simon Clayton, who organisers say is likely to cover issues including being fat, mixed race, married and balding; Glaswegian Geoff Boyz, who does a mean impression of Robert De Niro; and headline comedy act Mark Olver.

As well as being best mates with Russell Howard and Jon Richardson, organisers say that the Bristol-based comedian has many strings to his bow. ‘As well as being a well-known face on the comedy circuit, his TV credits include 8 out of 10 Cats and Kings of Comedy. He is a regular at the Edinburgh Festival, and in July 2008 he walked 500 miles from Bristol to Edinburgh, which provided material for his Ramble On show.’

However he ‘is probably most notorious for being the comic who once slipped on stage, dislocating his knee and breaking his ankle, and continued to deliver his set from the floor, slipping in and out of consciousness, until the paramedics arrived and carted him off in an ambulance.’ And while he’s unlikely to be doing any cartwheels on The Guildhall’s stage, it does go to demonstrate the man’s commitment to comedy.

As well as comedy from the trio of confirmed acts, the Big Laugh ticket price of £35 includes a complimentary glass of champagne on arrival, what organisers describe as ‘a lavish banquet featuring a tempting selection of traditional English desserts’, and disco dancing until the small hours, as well as the Big Ben midnight countdown on the big screen.
