Birmingham Royal Ballet in Cheltenham

Event ended

The Everyman Theatre will be welcoming back the internationally acclaimed Birmingham Royal Ballet, for three anticipated shows this May.

The acclaimed company will be performing on stage in Cheltenham.

Top UK dance company Birmingham Royal Ballet is ready to absorb audiences with three very different ballets that each features a variety of balletic styles.

The first, John Cranko’s quirky Brouillards, is to be performed alongside a score comprised of nine Debussy piano preludes. This ballet is making its comeback over twenty-five years after it was last performed by the Birmingham company and endeavours to conjure the haunting imagery of misty autumnal days.

Taking inspiration from a macabre medieval poem, Dance House has been created by the company’s own artistic director David Bintley. Prompted by the early death of a friend and dance colleague, the accompanying soundtrack of music by Shostakovich lends a darker character to the piece.

Bintley commented: ‘Of all the dance performing arts, ballet is the most diverse and the most popular. From classics to the avant-garde and from comedies to tragedies and abstraction, ballet does it all.’

The energetic Slaughter on Tenth Avenue is completely different again – telling the story of a glamorous stripper and a happy-go-lucky tap dancer who, after finding out he is the mark of a hit man in the audience, must dance as if his life depends on it – because it does!

Described as the UK’s premier touring dance company, this is an unmissable opportunity for audiences to catch the skill and versatility of a world class ballet company, when the talented dancers take to the stage for the fourth year in a row.
