One Man Lord Of The Rings in Cheltenham
One Man Lord Of The Rings brings fresh theatre to Cheltenham from an energetic man on a very unusual solo mission.
Yes, it’s time for Charles Ross to hit the Shire with his latest one-man show – and we’re not just talking Gloucestershire.
The follow-on from the hugely popular One Man Star Wars Trilogy – a surprise sell-out show at Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 2006 – is set to recreate Middle Earth this time round, and will be arriving in Cheltenham on Wednesday 22 September 2010.
One Man Lord Of The Rings is based on Tolkien’s fantastical and globally adored series focusing on one little hobbit, his band of merry mates and some epic adventures. The new show certainly looks capable of equalling the success of its predecessor, if not exceeding it now that Ross has made such a name for himself in the theatrical world.
Both written and performed by Ross, it truly is a one-man show in all respects. Even Sir Ian McKellen has borne witness to the calibre of the performance, commenting: ‘If you liked Lord Of The Rings, you’ll love the Charlie Ross version – and if you didn’t, well, at least his is shorter.’
During this unique piece of theatre audiences will see the actor’s interpretation of hundreds of characters from the whimsical episodes, as he whizzes through the Tolkien saga. Look forward to a world of ethereal creatures, both sprightly and menacing, as well as, of course, the rather wretched Gollum.
A refreshing change from the blockbuster films, which used CGI effects, millions of dollars and hours of editing, Ross’ show requires minimal lighting and no props or special effects, making use of nothing but dynamic acting, voice work and humour in order to immerse his audience in the wonderful world of Frodo and friends.
Peter Jackson suddenly doesn’t look quite such a genius! Grab your ticket now to witness this theatrical spectacular.
