Following on from the success of its hit 2010 show The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, The Gloucester Theatre Company is back with its new production The Secret Garden – appearing at The Picturedrome Theatre in Gloucester this spring.

Performances are scheduled from Friday 15 April to Monday 2 May 2011 and will feature a mixture of professional and local youth actors, an original musical score and a number of specially created puppets.

The play is inspired by the classic children’s novel of the same name, by Frances Hodgson Burnett, which tells the story of Mary who is brought back from India as an unwanted child after the death of her parents. Living in her uncle’s great lonely house on the moors, one day Mary discovers the key to a secret garden and a magical adventure unfolds.

Gloucestershire Theatre Company’s artistic director Alexander Gifford commented: ‘It is our mission to bring high quality theatre to Gloucester. People loved our last production and we hope that they will appreciate The Secret Garden just as much.’

The new production has received £17,000 of funding from the Arts Council England, and promises a theatrical family treat in the heart of Gloucester. Tickets are available by calling the number below, or online from Gloucester Guildhall’s website.
