Dick Whittington at the Bacon Theatre
Cheer the hero and boo the baddie at Promenade Productions’ latest panto Dick Whittington, on show at the Bacon Theatre in Cheltenham.
Popular local company Promenade Productions will be laying on a post-Christmas treat and the chance to chase away those winter blues, as it presents the traditional family pantomime Dick Whittington at the Bacon Theatre.
Adapted by actor and pantomime writer Peter Denyer, known for his loveable role as Dennis in ‘Please Sir!’, local audiences will be able to enjoy six Dick Whittington performances from Thursday 12 to Sunday 15 January 2012.
A British and very local tale, Dick Whittington follows the boy from Gloucestershire who, accompanied by his cat, sets out to find fame and fortune in London.
Organisers say the shows will be full of dames, jokes, songs and everything you might expect from a family pantomime. ‘Why not come along and cheer the hero, or boo the baddie , there really will be something for everything.’
The story of Dick Whittington was reported to be first recorded in 1605, rapidly becoming a favourite and being included in several collections – such as the fairytale collections of Joseph Jacobs. What’s more Richard Whittington is said to have been a real person, the son of a knight and himself a rich merchant in London, serving three terms of Lord Mayor of London in the 1300s and 1400s.
Promenade Productions has been entertaining audiences for more than 25 years, and whether this will be your first time at one of their shows or you’re a seasoned regular, don’t delay in booking tickets and extend the festive season with this family show.
Plus, ticket prices have been frozen for the 2012 panto and Promenade Productions have also introduced a special £25 family ticket – valid for two adults and two children, on the first night only.
