Following on from a hugely successful panto season at the newly refurbished Everyman Theatre in Cheltenham, the phenomenally popular Propeller theatre company is back at the local venue with its interpretation of the tragic fairytale The Winter’s Tale.

The Shakespeare play will tell the mysterious and extraordinary story of a man consumed by an inexplicable jealousy that destroys his family, his kingdom and himself – with evening performances on Thursday 19, Friday 20, Saturday 21, Thursday 26 and Friday 27, plus a matinee on Saturday 21 January 2012.

Racked by guilt, Leontes sets off a chain reaction of events that leads to a miraculous climax and the chance of redemption.

Organisers commented: ‘The greatest playwright writing at the height of his powers, this is poetry in motion’.

For those of you not familiar with Propeller; it’s an all-male company which seeks to find a more engaging way of expressing Shakespeare and more completely explore the relationship between text and performance.

Formed in 1997, the company has toured extensively around the world garnering plenty of positive reviews along the way. ‘The overriding feeling is of a Shakespeare pulsing with muscular life – fresh, physical and utterly modern’, said The Independent about one of its shows.

Also being performed by Propeller at the Everyman Theatre this month, don’t miss Henry V.
