Top Girls at Everyman Theatre
Following on from a successful 2011 West End run, catch the modern classic Top Girls when it comes to Cheltenham this spring.
Dubbed one of the seminal plays of the twentieth century, Top Girls is said to flash with razor-sharp wit and ingenious theatricality and will be on show at the Everyman Theatre in Cheltenham this February.
Expected to pack out the venue with evening performances from Tuesday 7 to Saturday 11, as well as during matinees on Thursday 9 and Saturday 11 February 2012, the play is presented by Out of Joint and Chichester Festival Theatre.
In the days of Margaret Thatcher’s England a hard-nosed, go-getting businesswoman Marlene is hosting a dinner party to celebrate her promotion to managing director of the Top Girls Employment Agency. Her guests, all powerful women from myth and history, make for an extraordinary gathering.
Cheltenham theatre-goers can expect to enjoy a muscular, moving study of success – exploring the compromises Marlene has made and, chillingly, what happens to those left behind.
Director Max Stafford-Clark was behind the premiere of Top Girls in 1982, and his brand new production of the play now celebrated as a modern classic was an acclaimed West End hit last year. Find out if the drama cuts the mustard for yourself.
