Neighbourhood Watch in Cheltenham
Alan Ayckbourn returns with his 75th play Neighbourhood Watch, on show at Cheltenham’s very own Everyman Theatre.
Dubbed a world premiere production and following its New York run, the Alan Ayckbourn written and directed play Neighbourhood Watch is set to bring a taste of topical, black comedy to Cheltenham this February.
On show at the Everyman Theatre from Monday 20 to Saturday 25 February 2012, Neighbourhood Watch takes a look at The Bluebell Hill Development where things are not right. Theft, petty crime, vandalism and all the ills of modern suburban existence are on the increase.
Newcomers Martin and his sister Hilda are the crime wave’s latest victims and resolve to take action. ‘After all, the law of the land, all that’s right and proper and even God Himself are surely on their side’.
But audiences will see that, what starts out as a well-intentioned neighbourhood watch scheme soon develops into something altogether more sinister.
Promising a hilarious cautionary tale of the dangers of taking the law into your own hands, Neighbourhood Watch is, what’s more, the prolific English playwright Alan Ayckbourn’s 75th play – so Everyman Theatre-goers can expect a well-seasoned play, penned as ‘cracking good’ by The Guardian.
