Stroud Subscription Rooms is hoping pave the way for the side-splitting stars of tomorrow when it plays host to the Lastminutecomedy New Comedian of the Year Final 2012 – which will see six finalists battle it out for the coveted title.
More than 200 up-and-coming comedians applied to take part in this year’s competition, which is due to take place on Saturday 5 May 2012, and the lucky winner will take on the honour of full-paid bookings at all Lastminutecomedy clubs – performing alongside the likes of Adam Bloom, Jim Tavare and Ninia Benjamin to name a few.
Paul Edwards, the comedian and promoter who has run the event for the past three years said: ‘There’s some great talent in this the competition and they’ve got a lot to live up to – the previous two year’s winners have gone on to establish themselves as major forces on the comedy circuit and are even already picking up TV and radio work as well. I’m not pretending this competition made them, but it helped them along the way.’
Lastminutecomedy has hosted some big names in the past, including Graham Norton, Al Murray and Simon Pegg, and is hoping that this year’s competition will be a night to remember for all involved.
