Described as nothing less than sparklingly witty, genuinely moving and thought-provoking, Tony Award-winning play The Real Thing is set to take over the Everyman Theatre stage from Tuesday 5 to Saturday 9 June 2012.
From arguably one of the most successful playwrights alive today – Academy Award winner Sir Tom Stoppard – the piece was first performed in 1982 and has since seen several sell-out revivals, with the latest coming from the English Touring Theatre company.
Stoppard has become world-renowned for his works that include Shakespeare in Love, Arcadia and Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead, to name but a few.
The play within a play, The Real Thing, follows a celebrated playwright and his wife Charlotte who is cast in the starring role of his new production. Reality and fiction begin to blur when passions ignite and his marriage becomes entwined with that of Charlotte’s co-star.
The Telegraph hailed it as ‘a glorious play, in which Stoppard’s wit and intellectual rigour is warmed by the glow of romance’.
What’s more, theatre-goers can look forward to a one-off captioned performance and post show discussion set to take place on Wednesday 6 June 2012.
