Shakespeare savants will be heading out to enjoy a classic at one of 11 county locations, when this summer’s Rain or Shine tour of As You Like It arrives in Gloucestershire.
The well-loved local theatre company will be taking the immortal romantic comedy, famed for one of Shakespeare’s most quoted speeches, ‘All the world’s a stage’ – a fitting tribute to the Rain or Shine’s speciality – to 11 locations in Gloucestershire, encouraging theatregoers to bring along a picnic and blanket to the outdoor venues.
Also spawning the well-known phrase, ‘Too much of a good thing’, As You Like It follows heroine Rosalind as she flees persecution accompanied by her cousin and the court jester, to find safety and eventually love in the Forest of Arden.
Organisers said: ‘Will Rain or Shine present an evening of fun and mirth “as you like it?” You already know the answer! For being Shakespeare’s great comic romance, after much trial and tribulation, love will be found, right will prevail and the Forest of Arden will be the place where all will be revealed.’
Promising a professional performance that will not only educate and entertain, but also provide a unique experience for Gloucestershire theatregoers of all ages, the troupe’s 65-date tour will cover a plethora of venues across the UK, with the 11 venues in Gloucestershire including:
