To coincide with Charles Dickens’ bicentenary, which is being celebrated nationwide throughout 2012, Tewkesbury’s Roses Theatre will play host to a new solo show featuring one of his most iconic characters, Miss Havisham’s Expectations on Wednesday 19 September 2012.
Taking inspiration from Dickens’ Great Expectations, as well as biographical material from the writer himself, the play is a one-woman show which sees Miss Nora Havisham reveal a love/hate relationship with her creator, who is described as ‘a man who liked to play God with his female characters but had little understanding of them.’
Organisers said: ‘This jilted bride, robed forever in her wedding dress, alongside the stopped clock and untouched cake, is desperate to set the record straight.’
Theatre fans can look forward to a tour-de-force performance from award-winning actress Linda Marlowe, who boasts a host of West End, film and television appearances, including most recently BBC’s Jekyll.
The Times said that the show ‘seduces with a riot of imagery and a firework display of virtuoso acting,’ so locals can expect big things from the latest Seabright production.
