Tewkesbury’s Roses Theatre has announced the appointment of its new chairman, Peter Cottingham, who takes on the role following the sad passing of long-serving Rod Leaver earlier this year.
Having lived in the Cotswolds for 14 years, Peter is thought to have been the best man for the job, considering his drive and enthusiasm for the arts, not to mention an extensive career in marketing and corporate development spanning both the public and private sectors.
His most recent role as chairman for the Star Appeal saw him help raise £12 million to provide new arts, therapy and teaching facilities for the National Star College in Cheltenham, further supporting his successful appointment at the Tewkesbury theatre.
Peter said: ‘It is the vibrant outlook that the Roses has that attracted me to the role the most. Knowing that I will be able to be part of the venture, adding some of my own experience, contacts and ideas to the mix, is a partnership that both excites me and fills me with confidence.’
He added: ‘I am a very regular supporter in the arts. I particularly enjoy theatre, classical music and opera, which is one of the reasons why I was keen to be chairman of the Roses. Its programme is so diverse, there is always something for me to enjoy.’
And the bustling arts and entertainment centre, which also hosts an eclectic programme of live events, workshops, exhibitions, festivals and film screenings is currently enjoying the success of opening its new charity shop on Tewkesbury High Street, as well as its recent successful application to the Arts Council that secured a potential sum of £120,000 over three years for further development.
