Exciting opportunity for an exceptional web designer to join award-winning independent publishing company as lead designer.

Independent Cheltenham-based publishing company So Publishing Ltd is expanding, and has an exciting opportunity for an experienced, creative and passionate website designer to join its team as soon as possible on a freelance basis.

This ongoing role will entail work on the award-winning SoGlos.com (Winner of Website of Year in the EDF South West Media Awards), as well as a full design of a brand new online publication scheduled for launch this year.

You will be required to work to a brief while injecting your own creative flair and expertise, taking the design process from concept to wireframe to full HTML and CSS, ready for our developer to integrate with our bespoke back office CMS.

Essential skills

  • Expert working knowledge of Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator
  • Expert working knowledge of the latest HTML5 and CSS3 practices and standards
  • Ability to generate great ideas and concepts
  • Core understanding of current website design trends, usability and accessibility
  • Strong sense of visual style, layout, colour and typography
  • Logo design and brand development
  • Ability to work on your own initiative and manage workflow
  • Ability to work as part of a small team in a fast-paced environment

Advantageous skills

  • Print-based design and layout using Adobe InDesign
  • Design for tablets and smart phones

So Publishing Ltd’s flagship title SoGlos.com was launched almost five years ago and has been cited as the future of regional publishing, gaining national recognition for its professional editorial standards. It is the No.1 guide to Gloucestershire arts, entertainment leisure and attracts a phenomenal 80,000 unique readers every month. While So Publishing Ltd’s exciting new launch will be a first for the south west.

The hours for this role will be part-time and flexible to suit both parties. The chosen designer will be free to work from SoGlos.com’s Cheltenham office or their own studio.
