Cineworld Gloucester set to move to The Quayside

Cineworld Gloucester will be opening its brand new cinema at the £60m Quayside development on Thursday 5 December 2013.

The Cineworld Gloucester cinema will be relocated to Gloucester Quays’ brand new £60m development, just across the road, with an official opening scheduled fr Thursday 5 December 2013.

Aptly-named The Quayside, the extension is set to house not only the new Cineworld cinema, but also up to 11 new eateries and bars, including popular Italian chain Zizzi and vibrant Mexican restaurant Chimichanga; and 24-hour health and fitness centre The Gym, promising Gloucester locals plenty more to see and do in the city centre leisure destination.

The fully-digitalised 10-screen cinema complex will have a 1,600-seat capacity and be a far cry from the six-screen Cineworld currently operating in The Peel Centre, and local film-goers can look forward to enjoying a heightened cinema experience with the comfort, sound and vision quality you’d expect from one of the UK’s leading cinema groups.

The new Cineworld is currently being constructed above the retail units on High Orchard Street, with the ground floor foyer entrance opposite the existing Pizza Express and Nando’s restaurants on Merchants Road. The foyer entrance will feature a licensed bar, fast food outlets and a ticketing area, with the atrium being accessible by escalators, stairs and lifts that take cinema-goers to the first floor.

A spokesperson for Cineworld said: ‘The Quayside offer, including new restaurants, cafes, bars and more outlet stores on the doorstep will make a visit to Cineworld even more attractive to families and couples looking for a great day or evening out.’

What’s more, The Quayside will see the creation of 500 new jobs in Gloucester’s historic docks area, with building work having started on the new development in the summer of 2012.

Managing director of Gloucester Quays, Jason Pullen, is hoping that the new cinema will be a key destination for people heading to The Quayside, he said: ‘We’re delighted that Cineworld has pledged its commitment not only to Gloucester Quays but also to Gloucester.

‘The move also leaves room for expansion of the retail offer at The Peel Centre, which we expect to announce some big brand names in the weeks and months to come.’
