Fresh: Art Fair celebrates resounding success

Following its first Cheltenham showcase which welcomed nearly 4,500 visitors across three days, Fresh: Art Fair has established itself as a key player in the provincial art fair calendar.

Fresh: Art Fair is celebrating after the resounding success of its first Cheltenham showcase, which saw nearly 4,500 visitors through the doors between Friday 12 and Sunday 14 May 2017.

The inaugural event, which took place at Cheltenham Racecourse, played host to 46 of the UK’s leading galleries and featured 5,000 works from 400 artists, making it the largest contemporary art fair between London and Manchester.

Marking an astonishing achievement for the first fair in a new region, Fresh: Art Fair saw the sale of 348 paintings and sculptures over the weekend, which amounted to a whopping £400,000.

Highlights during the fair included free on-the-spot valuations from Bonhams auctioneers; a live art demonstration by British portrait artist Paul Oz; and ‘meet the artist’ opportunities with 10 painters and sculptors who worked live during the weekend.

Speaking of the fair’s success, co-founder Eleanor Wardle said: ‘People came in droves and kept coming back for two or three visits. The atmosphere was wonderful with visitors loving the work, talking to the painters and sculptors working live and enjoying our talks about art, print-making and bronze casting.

‘Exhibitors were certainly keen to come back to Cheltenham so I think you’ll be seeing another fair around the same time in 2018, with broadly the same formula, but more fresh ideas and fresh faces.’
