Westonbirt Arboretum and Gloucestershire-based charity, Art Shape, launched a new, nature-inspired art exhibition online, this February 2021.
Designed to help connect people with trees and nature, the Arts Council funded Art Bridge Emergents project allowed Westonbirt Arboretum to host an artist in residence, as well as providing opportunities to emerging artists who face ‘disabling barriers.’
The project also saw artist-in-residence, Deb Hoy, work with these local artists to create a thought-provoking installation called The Lungs of the Earth at Westonbirt Arboretum’s Silk Wood – highlighting the deep connection between humans and trees.
The Art Bridge Emergents exhibition was due to open to the public on Thursday 5 November 2020, but was postponed until 2021 due to lockdown.
But Westonbirt Arboretum and Art Shape made the exhibition – which features drawings, paintings, mixed media pieces and the The Lungs of the Earth installation – available to view online from Friday 5 February 2021.
The Lungs of the Earth installation will also be in situ at Westonbirt Arboretum until at least May 2021 for visitors to see in person, once lockdown restrictions are lifted.
