The sun’s out and it’s time for a pint! SoGlos has handpicked the best waterfront pubs and riverside restaurants that Gloucestershire has to offer.

With the sun out, we’ve been dreaming of long afternoons in the sunshine for what seems like months. SoGlos has rounded up the best of Gloucestershire’s waterfront pubs and restaurants, ideal for grabbing an ice-cold drink with friends and family this summer, or even a great pitstop if you’re messing about on the river!


1. The White Hart


This nautical-themed pub near Newnham-on-Severn is a popular food and drink spot in the Forest of Dean. With stunning views across the Severn, it’s the perfect place to let the wind breeze through your hair as you relax with a pint.


2. Greek on the Docks


Located at Gloucester Docks with perfect views of the ships and boats in the quay, Greek on the Docks is a bar and restaurant which serves authentic Greek cuisine. A lovely spot to take a break from shopping at nearby Gloucester Quays on a sunny day.


3. The Severn Bore Inn


This pub is a firm favourite with surfers after they’ve ridden the waves of Sabrina, or for people wanting to watch from the riverbank. The pub opens for breakfast too, so it’s the perfect place to enjoy watching the tide roll by on a summer’s morning.


4. The Fleet, Twyning

With a glorious beer garden overlooking the River Avon, The Fleet is tucked away through the gorgeous green of Twyning, just a few miles from Tewkesbury. With plenty of space to enjoy the view and a children’s play area for kiddies, it’s a great spot for enjoying some tasty pub grub.


5. Brewhouse and Kitchen


Brewhouse and Kitchen is located at Gloucester Quays, with lots of tables along the waterfront. It’s the perfect spot for watching narrowboats leave the famous Gloucester dock, while you relax, with a pint of craft beer in hand.


6. The Pilot Inn


This riverside pub in Hardwicke, Gloucester, is a great spot for an afternoon drink alongside the river. There’s also a beer garden equipped with a children’s play area and a traditional, well-priced menu, that’s available all-year-round.


7. The Boathouse, Tewkesbury


This riverside restaurant in Tewkesbury offers an amazing range of cocktails and a delicious set menu offering. Set on King John’s island with incredible riverside views, you’d be forgiven for forgetting that you’re only two minutes away from Tewkesbury High Street!


8. Red Lion, Wainlodes


One of the most well-known riverside destinations in the county, The Red Lion is a firm favourite when the sun comes out. Don’t forget to try its famous ploughman’s lunch for an alfresco feast, watching the river roll by.


9. The Brasserie at De Vere Cotswold Waterpark


This idyllic restaurant is located at De Vere Cotswold Water Park Hotel in South Cerney, providing contemporary dining in a charming lakeside setting. Promising stunning waterfront views and delicious dining, this charming location also makes a great spot for breakfast.

The Old Boathouse Pub is a family-friendly pub situated next to De Vere Cotswold Water Park hotel in South Cerney. Offering stunning views across the lake, this venue is an impressive setting for drinking and dining.


11. Egypt Mill


Egypt Mill Hotel and Restaurant in Nailsworth is situated on the edge of the River Frome, offering lovely food and real ales on tap at a restored grain mill with Cotswold charm.


12. Duke of Wellington

The Duke of Wellington in Bourton-on-the-water is a 16th-century former coaching inn, located on the banks of the River Windrush. Real ales and pub grub are served, and there’s also a nicely decked garden with views of the river.
