The Bower House, a brand new restaurant with rooms, has opened in the Cotswold market town of Shipston-on-Stour, offering locals and visitors alike a stylish spot to eat, drink and socialise.
The new venture is the brainchild of Andrew Knight, who hopes to fill the gap for exciting independent Cotswold restaurants with the opening of The Bower House: ‘The Cotswolds, and the British countryside in general, have a wonderful surfeit of great gastro pubs and grand country house hotels, but very few good, democratic, proper restaurants.
‘It’s a nonsense that it’s only London and the cities who want them – we all want a beautiful, welcoming room to sit in and to be served good food with warmth and understated attention.’
The grade II-listed building, a former shop, has been converted into an impressive space by architects Stiff+Trevillion who led the renovation project, while the vibrant décor, eclectic art and mismatched furniture are key features of the restaurant’s distinct but interlinked rooms.
The Bower House’s head chef Darren Brown, formerly development chef for The Lucky Onion group, is excited to bring his expertise to the restaurant, with his cooking style described as ‘modern British with a French twist’.
Everything is made in-house and diners can expect dishes such as Evesham asparagus with duck egg hollandaise; Hereford bavette with watercress salad, fries and bone marrow butter; and dark chocolate fondant with walnut semi-freddo and nougatine.
The Bower House will benefits from five individually decorated en-suite rooms, which are due to open in May, making it the ideal base for exploring the Cotswolds during a weekend break.
