Interview with Hey Pesto Catering

Masters of all things foodie, SoGlos chats to Gloucester's Hey Pesto Catering about creating heavenly treats, seriously delicious canapés, and what really goes on at the Hey Pesto HQ.

Whipping up a storm in the kitchen, Gloucester’s Hey Pesto Catering creates everything from bountiful buffets and wonderful wedding breakfasts to scrumptious snacks and bakes.

Treating SoGlos to an insight into what happens at the Hey Pesto HQ, we chat to the local catering company about tasty bakes, catering for royals and all-things foodie.

1. Can you tell us what a normal day is like for you?

We have two areas at the Hey Pesto headquarters, the kitchen and the office, but both areas make magic!

We’ll start our day by checking our emails which can range from wedding enquiries to buffet orders. The kitchen team start their day much earlier, with head chef Symon prepping orders from 4.30am!

2. What do you love most about working for Hey Pesto?

Every company, wedding and event that we cater for is so different and each day we see something new. That and our fantastic team; we really are like a family and each of us have our own strengths and personalities.

3. What is your favourite thing to whip up in the kitchen?

Symon: I don’t really have one favourite thing because I love to make different things each week. I love meeting new clients who are quite foodie and know what they want.

Sometimes, we have companies who are hosting for American clients for a meeting and want an American spin on our buffets. It gives me a chance to be creative and is the reason I became a chef in the first place.

4. What delicious treats can we expect from Hey Pesto Catering?

Everything we do is delicious. Our food is freshly made to order so you can expect anything from bloomer bread sandwiches with fillings ranging from salmon and cream cheese to spicy coronation chicken.

We also create homemade cakes such as spiced orange and maple drizzle cake, and Oreo brownies, as well as a variety of buffet items, canapes and pulled pork.

5. What has been your most memorable event you have catered for?

There are so many that it’s hard to choose. For 2017, it would have to be catering for Cadbury World. They had a competition for to win a family camping trip with our catering also part of the prize.

We set to work creating Smores kits, barbeques, popcorn and hot chocolates whilst the winners tucked in and watched an outdoor screening of Babe. It was fantastic and we loved being a part of it.

6. What’s unique about Hey Pesto Catering?

We are incredibly bespoke. We don’t mind if you come to us with an exact list of what you want, or if you want us to create menus for you. We can suit any budget, any taste, any dietary requirement.

7. Finally, who would be your dream client to cater for?

Well, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have an upcoming arrangement…
