Light lunches encompass sandwiches, toasties, and jacket potatoes with fillings such as humous and olive tapenade; vegan cheese and tomato; and pan-fried mushrooms. For main meals, tempting choices include Homemade Falafel with onion rings, pitta bread, and red pepper dip; and a Seasonal Vegan Pâté made from roasted pepper, butternut squash and lentils, served with homemade chutney, oat cake and salad.

For the final touch add a side dish such as Cajun chips, cheesy chips, olives, falafel or green chutney. What’s more as each dish is made fresh to order, the majority of items on the main menu can be changed into vegan alternatives at a customer’s request.

Highlights include the Vegan Breakfast with falafel, hash browns, baked beans, slow-roasted tomato, sautéed mushrooms, spinach, wood-roasted peppers and toast; the Pulled Jackfruit Burger with roasted garlic veganaise, red onion and barbecue sauce in a sourdough bun; and a Mexican Superbowl with black beans, guacamole, roasted sweet potato and butternut squash, served with lime and coriander rice and salsa.

The tasty menu features a classic Margherita; Sicilian Caponata with spiced aubergine, toasted pine nuts, sultanas and rocket; Alice in Wonderland with fresh chopped tomatoes, sautéed wild mushrooms, marjoram and roast asparagus; a simple but delicious Marinara, and more.

5. Bill's Gloucester Quays

A popular franchise with an outpost in Gloucester Quays, Bill’s has a number of vegan options on its menu, making it a great place to enjoy a tasty breakfast, leisurely lunch or delicious dinner.

Offerings on the menus include a Rustic Butternut Squash Stew with chargrilled red peppers and onions, mixed grains and kale; Ancient Grain Bowl asparagus, charred broccoli, roasted cherry tomatoes, avocado, tapenade and a lemon dressing; and toasted focaccia with hummus and olives.

6. Bangkok Canteen

A family-run Thai restaurant in the centre of Gloucester, Bangkok Canteen champions locally-sourced produce, using gluten free, organic and vegan ingredients where possible, including its beers and wines.

Enjoy vegan meals such as Tom Yam hot and sour clear soup with mushrooms; Pak Tempura battered vegetables with sweet chilli sauce; Kang Dang red curry with tofu and vegetables; and Pad Kra Praw stir-fry with chilli, garlic, mushroom, basil leaves and tofu.

7. Brewhouse & Kitchen
