Specialising in street food from South America, the Caribbean and Asia, Sama Sama in Stroud’s Union Street opened its doors in June 2018.

Operated by Laurence Kapoor, the former head chef of Stroud’s Mediterranean restaurant No. 23, the trendy street food kitchen combines fantastic flavours with a relaxed atmosphere, brightly coloured décor and unusual artwork.

Sama Sama boasts a spacious courtyard garden, described by owners as a ‘sun trap’, perfect for alfresco dining on those long summer evenings, where visitors will be able to enjoy regular live music and DJ appearances.

The venue’s eclectic menu includes a range of burgers and sandwiches with fillings such as Teriyaki tuna with wasabi mayo, pickles, fresh cucumber and sriracha; the Mexican fish burger with salsa, guacamole and jalapeño and lime tartare sauce; or the Jurkey Burger, a turkey pattie with garlic jerk mayo, avocado, pineapple and rocket.

A range of bowls served with rice or fries are available where options include chicken, prawn or vegan flavours. Salads are on offer with delicious side dishes to perfect the meal, including Bang Bang cauliflower made with sweet chilli, sriracha, garlic and spring onions; nachos with all the toppings; and chilli and garlic green beans.

Trendy and exclusive cocktails include blood orange and pink grapefruit mojitos; a frozen espresso martini, known as a Frapputini; frozen Lilt margaritas; and a tropical daiquiri, to name just a few. What’s more, the venue also has a happy hour between 5pm and 7pm on Thursdays where selected cocktails are available at £10 for two.

Not just an evening venue, Sama Sama is open in the day, providing delicious lunch options and locally roasted Fairtrade coffee from Bristol Twenty.

The eatery also offers a range of delicious vegan options throughout its menu including Vegball Banh Mi; Channa masala burger; rice ‘n’ pea arancini; and Sama Sama’s incredible vegan Oreo cheesecake.
