L’Artisan on Clarence Street in Cheltenham is reopening as a café serving coffee, French pastries and bistro-style lunches.

Since Cheltenham’s much-loved L’Artisan closed its doors in April 2022, owners Elisabeth and Yves Ogrodzki have been hard at work transforming the bistro into a new ‘café du midi’, which opens its doors to diners on Tuesday 14 June 2022.

The new L’Artisan French Bistro – Café will offer breakfast and lunch from Tuesday to Saturday, serving coffee, croissants and omelettes from 10am, alongside a selection of à la carte French dishes from 11.30am to 3pm.

To mark the start of this new chapter, L’Artisan French Bistro – Café is also serving a Tour de France set menu inspired by the Normandy region, available from 11.30am to 3pm until Saturday 2 July 2022. Options include an apple and Camembert bonbon, traditional Normandy seafood gratin and Normandy apple tart.

L’Artisan had been established in Cheltenham for some 10 years and received a glowing review from The Guardian food critic Jay Rayner, but was forced to reinvent itself after Covid and Brexit caused problems with supply difficulties and staff shortages.

‘We have decided to adapt to the situation with another perspective for our future while continuing to do what we love the most; welcoming you to share a good time’ its owners said at the time.

In an email sent to newsletter subscribers announcing its reopening, co-owner Elisabeth Ogrodzki said: ‘Yves and I have made the changes we wanted, that correspond to the image we have of a bistro’.

L’Artisan French Bistro – Café opens on Tuesday 14 June 2022 and tables are available to book now, with customers able to order some of its delicacies to take away, too.
