The Painswick crowned Hotel of the Year by The Sunday Times

Picking up the title of Hotel of the Year in The Sunday Times' Ultimate 100 British Hotels guide is the icing on the cake for The Painswick, which has certainly made an impression since it opened in spring.

Boutique Cotswold bolthole, The Painswick, has been named Hotel of the Year by The Sunday Times, just six months after the 16-bed venue was unveiled.

The prestigious accolade saw the hotel, located in the charming hilltop town of Painswick, named as the top choice in The Sunday Times' travel section’s annual guide to the Ultimate 100 British Hotels, which was published on Sunday 16 October 2016.

Stephen Bleach, the paper’s travel editor, said: ‘It’s simply a beautiful building in a beautiful place, run with enthusiasm, care and a touch of humour. It offers simple things done well – and when you do lots and lots of those, as The Painswick does, they add up to something special.’

Formerly Cotswold88, the award-winning hotel opened its doors in March 2016 after an extensive year-long project that saw The Calcot Collection transform the stunning period property into a hip younger sister of the businesses other hotels, Calcot and Barnsley House.

The Calcot Collection’s executive chairmain, Richard Ball, is delighted with the news: ‘Once again, The Sunday Times has produced a fabulous guide full of variety, colour and insight around stand-out hotels across the length and breadth of the country. For The Painswick to have been singled out as Hotel of the Year is a truly remarkable achievement and we are all thrilled to bits.

‘So many have brought such tremendous dedication and passion to the shaping of The Painswick and establishing its foothold within a British hotel scene that is spoiled for choice. The Sunday Times’ recognition now really does place The Painswick on the map.’
