Cheltenham man, Ben Hooper, is set to embark on a world record-breaking expedition this year in an attempt to swim 2,000 miles of the Atlantic Ocean, from Senegal to Brazil, in a challenge dubbed ‘Swim the Big Blue.’
Expected to set off in December 2015, Ben is giving followers the chance to get involved by buying or sponsoring one of his miles, with a host of opportunities available for individuals, businesses and aspiring adventurers alike.
Individuals can buy a mile for just £10, showing their support for Swim the Big Blue by helping Ben raise £1 million for his three charities, Maggie’s Cancer Care, Addaction, and SOS Children’s Villages.
Sponsorships packages, aimed at businesses, start from £250, giving sponsors the chance to have their company logo displayed on the support boat, with advertising space on the web pages also available, while receiving publicity, if they wish to have it, from regional, national and international press.
Ben said: ‘So far we’ve received the most sponsorship from local schools. It would be great if we could get some local companies behind us too, as it is a world first, and it is a Gloucestershire first.’
Sponsorship options include £250 for a Premium Mile; £500 for a Closing Mile; £1,000 for a Finishing Mile; £2,000 for the First Mile; and £5,000 for the Final Mile, which is expected to receive the most media attention.
What’s more, Ben will be selling the last place on the boat for offers of around £15,000, giving one lucky supporter the once in a lifetime opportunity to join his team on the boat for the four-month expedition from Africa to Brazil.
