8 ways to celebrate Wimbledon in Gloucestershire

Wimbledon, one of the biggest sporting events of the year, is finally here. And SoGlos is serving 8 grand slam ways to celebrate the tennis tournament in and around Gloucestershire.

From pop-up tennis courts to the perfect cream tea, this Wimbledon 2019 SoGlos has found all of the ‘ace’ events on offer across Gloucestershire to help you get stuck in with the tournament.

1. Take a pew at Gloucester Quays

Get a slice of the action at Gloucester Quays, where all the Wimbledon matches are being shown on the big screen in Pillar and Lucy Square. Grab a deckchair and obligatory Pimm’s, sit back and enjoy the thrilling tennis on Gloucestershire’s answer to Murray Mound.

2. Tuck into afternoon tea at a beautiful venue

Nothing says Wimbledon more than tea and cake and thankfully The Greenway Spa Hotel is offering a Wimbledon-themed afternoon tea from Monday 1 to Monday 15 July 2019. Guests can enjoy a glass of Pimm’s and afternoon tea for £32 per person. Delicious!

3. Take advantage of Babel’s Wimbledon specials

While showing the entire tournament on a projector, Babel is serving up some Wimbledon specials throughout the fortnight. Share a jug of Pimm’s while enjoying a strawberry and cream cake, or indulge with a strawberry and cream martini as part of this limited-time menu.

4. Try the ultimate Wimbledon dessert

Head down to Cosy Club in Cheltenham to enjoy a delicious Wimbledon-themed dessert. Tuck into a Pimm’s and Strawberry trifle or opt for an ace addition with one of Cosy Club’s cocktails to get into true summer spirit.

5. Visit the pub and catch all the matches

Can’t get hold of all the latest Wimbledon action at home? Gloucestershire boasts an abundance of sports bars and pubs that are always showing the biggest sporting events of the year, including two weeks of Wimbledon coverage. Visit the Frog and Fiddle in Cheltenham and try one of their teapot cocktails, or for a wide selection of great beers, take a trip to Blue Bamboo, Gloucester Quays’ very own sports bar.

6. Play tennis in the park

If Wimbledon gets you feeling inspired, why not take up a new hobby? Pittville Park is home to three courts, and Montpellier Gardens has six more, meaning there is plenty of opportunity to get stuck in around Cheltenham. The tennis courts can be booked for a small fee, and professional coaches can be hired to help you get that serve just right.

7. Hop across the border to Cabot Circus

Just a short trip outside of the county, Cabot Circus in Bristol is showing all of the Wimbledon action on a massive screen in the middle of the shopping complex. Sit back and relax in one of the deck chairs, grab a bite to eat from one of the many restaurants and feel as though you’re actually there, embracing the atmosphere of the iconic tournament.

8. Get stuck in with pop-up courts

Throughout the tournament, The Valley in Evesham has pop-up tennis courts, with the opportunity for the whole family to try their hand at tennis. Teaming up with Pershore Tennis Centre, there will be coaching sessions run by experienced tennis players, with chance for everyone to join in.
