Sue Perkins to rekindle First Love in Cheltenham
News – See Great British Bake Off presenter Sue Perkins rekindle her first love at Cheltenham Music Festival, in a brand new Sky Arts 1 HD programme.
Cheltenham is to be at the centre of a new music documentary which follows popular broadcaster Sue Perkins rediscovering her first love, showing on Tuesday 24 January 2012 on Sky Arts 1 HD.
First Love will see the Great British Bake Off and Supersizers television presenter performing at last year’s Cheltenham Music Festival, reviving a passion she is said to once have for music – before forging her career in comedy.
Small screen audiences will see Sue relearn the classical piano, an instrument she hasn’t played since childhood. Encouraged by her mother, Sue started tinkling the ivories at the age of eight, taking all her grades, only to give it up when she was ‘humiliatingly upstaged in her school assembly’.
A staggering 30 years on and Sue is facing her nemesis. Mentored by international virtuoso Paul Lewis, Sue’s lessons build to a performance of Beethoven’s ‘Pathetique Sonata’ in front of 500 discerning classical music fans at Cheltenham Music Festival.
This programme will be the first of a six-part series where six famous faces from music, television and politics rekindle their relationship with their first musical love. Other episodes will see Alastair Campbell, Shaun Ryder, Carl Cox, Stephen Mangan and Sophie Winkleman rediscovering the passion they once had for music before forging their successful careers in very different fields.
The new series will be transmitted on Sky Arts 1 HD from Tuesday 24 January 2012 at 8pm for six weeks.
