VibroGym at Leisure at Cheltenham

News - The new vibrating VibroGym has arrived at leisure@cheltenham this May, for Cheltenham’s body-conscious to get a new kind of workout.

The two new VibroGym machines at leisure@cheltenham will provide a unique twist on working out.
The two new VibroGym machines at leisure@cheltenham will provide a unique twist on working out.

It seems like every other week there’s a new workout, diet or device which is touted as the new answer to all of our slimming and fitness dilemmas, so you can be forgiven for being a tad sceptical.

But the VibroGym, which was officially launched at leisure@cheltenham on Saturday 16 May 2009, claims to ‘massively enhance workouts’ using the principles of acceleration training to stimulate the body’s natural response to vibration.

Essentially it’s a big vibrating plate which you stand on, holding onto to the handles so you don’t fall off, with the idea that the vibrations create instability in the body, which is forced to perform reflective muscle actions 25 to 50 times per second, resulting in increased muscle strength, bone density and flexibility.

The whole body vibration is also claimed to help with reducing pain, increasing mobility and improving postural control. And the best bit? The VibroGym machine can pretty much do all of the work for you, so you can just stand there and, well, vibrate – or complete a variety of exercises if you’re feeling energetic!

Stephen Petherick, commercial manager for leisure@cheltenham, said: ‘These two new VibroGym pieces of equipment are available to members at no extra cost, and will no doubt be a welcomed addition to the fitness experience at the leisure centre.

‘The platforms can be used as part of a main session or a more complete workout can be completed with support and guidance provided by our instructors. The adjustable settings on the machine and supervision from our fully trained staff will ensure that members can get the very best from each workout.’
