Opening the ever-popular Concert Series being held at Cheltenham Town Hall will be a performance from the Orchestra of St John’s on Tuesday 11 September 2012.
The Series, which will run until Wednesday 22 May 2013, features 10 performances from some of the finest musicians in the country, and the first offering is no exception.
Under the baton of its founder John Lubbock, the Orchestra of St John’s is said to pride itself on being different from other orchestras by forming not only an important part of the music scene, but also being at the heart of the community and life surrounding it.
Classical music fans can look forward to hearing four of Bach’s greatest works during the evening, with ‘Brandenburg Concerto No. 4’ and ‘Suite No. 2 in B minor’, both prominently featuring notes from flute duo Sir James and Lady Keanne Galway.
‘Concerto for Three Harpsichords in C’ will also be on the line up, and ‘Arias for Soprano and Flute Obbligato’ will be accompanied by the distinct voice of Cotswolds-born Hannah Davey.
The Guardian is just one media to have praised the orchestra, commenting: ‘OSJ remains an impressive ensemble. Lubbock perfectly negotiated the music’s fine line between childhood fantasy and the perils of adult experience.’
Series tickets for the 2012-2013 Cheltenham Concert Series will be available to buy from Wednesday 6 June 2012, with tickets for individual concerts available from Monday 11 June 2012.
