Every year on the May bank holiday thousands of spectators – and a few dozen brave competitors – flock to a hill in Gloucestershire for an unrivalled sporting event, officially known as the Cooper’s Hill Cheese Rolling and Wake.

The event sees competitors chase down the cliff-like hill after a Double Gloucester cheese, hoping to reach the bottom first, avoid any severe injuries and win the coveted dairy trophy.

Unsurprisingly there are always a good few injuries, complete with ‘ohhhhs’ and ‘ahhhs’ from spectators, but most get away with a few bumps and scratches in what makes for an unbelievable family-fun day out.

Don’t miss SoGlos.com’s report and video of the Gloucestershire Cheese Rolling 2007, and if you’re feeling brave then why not enter the Gloucestershire Cheese Rolling 2008 event.
