Spice Lodge scoops British Curry Award
News – Cheltenham Indian restaurant Spice Lodge has won the title of Best in South West in the British Curry Awards 2011, and it is celebrating the occasion with a special customer offer.
Forget heading to Bristol or Bath for your spice fix, as long-time favourite Cheltenham restaurant Spice Lodge has been awarded the prestigious title of Winner for the Best in South West in the 2011 British Curry Awards – following a glittering awards night held in London last week.
And to celebrate the occasion, the award-winning Indian and Thai eatery will be inviting customers to enjoy a complementary glass of champagne on arrival, a special menu and discount – available only on Monday 12 and Tuesday 13 December 2011.
Since its inception seven years ago Spice Lodge has been a finalist in the national competition – known as the Oscars of the curry industry – and following this year’s British Curry Award-win has been dubbed one of the ten best Indian restaurants in the UK. It’s also the only Gloucestershire restaurant to be recognised in this year’s coveted awards.
Executive chef Shaikh Aysan, who heads up the kitchen at Spice Lodge, is thrilled with the recent award win: ‘It was a dream come true’. While owner Mohammed Rahman is said to be: ‘Thrilled and delighted and has plans to further improve the restaurant in 2012.’
The British Curry Awards are based on members of the public nominating their favourite spice restaurant – including those serving Bangladeshi, Indian, Pakistani, Sri Lankan or Nepalese cuisine. Over 68,000 nominations were received for more than 2,700 curry restaurants in 2011, with celebrity chef James Martin being given the honour of announcing the winners at this year’s event.
