Gloucester firm to refurbish Everyman Theatre
News – The Everyman Theatre’s forthcoming £3 million restoration will be undertaken by local firm Speller Metcalfe, the Cheltenham venue announced today.
Gloucester-based building firm Speller Metcalfe will be treading the Everyman Theatre’s boards this summer – having just been awarded the contract to refurbish the popular Cheltenham venue.
The £3 million project will include completely restoring the Victorian building, renovating the auditorium, front of house and existing bars and toilets.
Andy Metcalfe of Speller Metcalfe, said: ‘We are absolutely thrilled to be awarded the Everyman contract. It will involve a great deal of specialist works, including fibrous plaster work, specialist decoration and art restoration, and specialist finishes as well as the need for technical installations covering lighting and sound works. It’s an amazing project and one we are delighted to be involved in.’
The Everyman Theatre’s chief executive, Geoffrey Rowe, said: ‘Appointing the contractor is a major step on the road to restoring the Everyman back to its former glory. I am delighted that the company which triumphed in the tendering process is one based in Gloucestershire.’
